The iconic chain of the High Jura mountains has for the most part been classified as a National Natural Reserve since 1993. At almost 11 000 hectares it is among the most extensive mountain ranges in Metropolitan France. (photo credits: RNNHCJ).

Team

The Natural Reserve Team consists of the following 6 permanent staff members :

Director

  • Heads the service
  • Coordinates flora and fauna inventories and scientific surveys
  • Is responsible for management planning in coordination with local partners
  • Chairs meetings (the advisory committee, the project monitoring committee, the scientific council, etc)
  • He is responsible for budget management and is the liaison with the State, the management and with other partners
  • Acts as an environmental law-keeper

 

Assistant director

  • Supervises the park rangers and coordinates technical operations: surveillance/policing, work sites, biological surveys
  • Is responsible for issuing and following up on requests for work projects, for events, for vehicle access
  • Aids the Director with the management plan and the budget
  • Collaborates on the drafting and the implementing of the protocol of scientific surveys
  • Oversees the naturalists’ data base, notably SERENA

 

Administrative assistant

  • In charge of receiving visitors and answering phone calls
  • Deals with post, emails, management files, diary
  • Is the liaison with the state administration (DREAL, DDT, sous-préfecture, etc) and the local communities
  • Supports the Director and his Assistant Director with administrative procedures (liaison with authorities, activity calendar, meetings, management plans)

 

Park Ranger Expertise : high pasture farming, botany and geology

 

  • Polices the Reserve, follows up on work and event permits, as well as maintenance work
  • Maintains reference files, inventories and studies, and natural and cultural heritage surveys of the RNN
  • Supervises awareness campaigns for the public (cultural activities, conferences, outings)

 

 Park Ranger Expertise : forest ecosystems, forestry, tetraonidae, cartography

  •  Polices the Reserve, follows up on work and event permits as well as maintenance work
  • Maintains reference files, inventories and studies, and natural and cultural heritage surveys of the RNN
  • Supervises awareness campaigns for the public (cultural activities, conferences, outings)

 

Park Ranger Expertise : outdoor activities, botany and meterology

 

  • Polices the Reserve, follows up on work and event permits and maintenance work
  • Maintains reference files, inventories and studies, and natural and cultural heritage surveys of the RNN
  • Supervises awareness campaigns for the public (cultural activities, conferences, outings)

 

 Scientific mission officer

    • It manages the naturalist data of the Nature Reserve,
    • In the field, it monitors the smooth running of the inventories and scientific monitoring carried out by the agents,
    • It ensures the exploitation and enhancement of the data resulting from this monitoring,
    • It establishes new protocols based on the objectives of the management plan and, if necessary, updates existing protocols,
    • It takes care of scientific monitoring on subjects of interest to the Nature Reserve,
    • She liaises with the various partners on scientific studies to strengthen partnerships,
    • It leads the scientific council in support of the curator.
